Preparing for Your Appointment
Before Your Appointment
At the time of booking, we will send over a patient packet that will provide you with information on what to expect during your visit, along with educational material to help you understand your condition and what treatment options you have, so you can make better, more informed decisions involving your ocular health. We will also include new patient information and a list of items you may need to bring to your appointment. Your time is valuable to us and we want you to get the most out of your time with our dry eye specialist.
If you are a pre-/post-op referral, we will include additional information on treatment options that may be recommended to you before, during, and after surgery. To ensure the best surgical outcome, your surgeon may recommend a comprehensive dry eye evaluation if there is evidence of dry eye disease or ocular surface disease. If treatment is recommended, our goal will be to stabilize the surface of your eye to maximize surgical outcomes and ensure comfortable healing.
During Your Appointment
We will conduct a series of diagnostic tests that will rule out other diseases and hone in on the root cause of your condition. From there, we will be able to effectively define the cause of your symptoms and implement the correct treatment plan that is specific to you. DED is a complex disease, with a wide range of signs and symptoms that need to be analyzed in a strategic and organized way.
Along with a collection of your symptoms and review of history, we may run a series of non-invasive diagnostic tests, including: Tear Meniscus Height (TMH), Non-invasive TBUT, Tear Osmolarity, Ocular Surface Staining, Meibomian Gland Evaluation.
After Your Appointment
Following your appointment, we will provide you with guidance and recommendations specific to your diagnosis. It's important to understand that adhering to your prescribed treatment plan is crucial for the best possible outcome. You may also have follow-up appointments scheduled to monitor your progress and make any necessary adjustments to your treatment plan. We are committed to supporting you throughout your journey to better ocular health, and we encourage you to reach out with any questions or concerns you may have. Your well-being is our top priority.
